In 1980,
Jack L. Stephens, DVM, with the support of 750 independent veterinarians
spearheaded a mission to provide pet owners with financial assistance
when their pet became ill or injured. Too many veterinarians had witnessed

couldn't be given proper medical care because they weren't financially
prepared to pay for the surgery or treatments.
