COVID Restrictions: Why Can’t I Come In With My Pet and Why Does My Appointment Take So Long?

Over the last 11 months, we have had to make big changes in our daily work flow. One of the most noticeable to our clients is that they cannot come inside the clinic with their pets for exams. Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have outlined specific guidelines that we must follow in order to stay open. To be compliant with those regulations we are mandated to operate with clients remaining outside the building. We allow for the exceptions outlined by Oregon OSHA which are: 1) clients being present for euthanasia of their pet and 2) demonstrations of specific treatments such as at-home subcutaneous fluid administration.

Your appointment takes longer because these required policies present time constraints. We must phone to get your pet checked in, phone again to discuss exam findings and proposed treatments and phone a third time to check out, walk your pet in and out of the clinic; all of these steps require more time. This is also why our schedule is so full.

All veterinary clinics are struggling with these issues as they too must comply with COVID regulations. We look forward to having our wonderful clients accompany their pets into our practice as soon as possible. Until then, thank you for your understanding and patience.
